Specialist programs
Specialist programs are an important part of the learning program at RSS.
Performing Arts
Our specialist Performing Arts teacher provides opportunities to develop confidence and skills in music, dance, drama and media arts. The program helps develop students’ creativity, confidence, cultural knowledge and critical thinking.
Our program includes:
- twice weekly lessons for each class on each element of Performing Arts
- End of Year Performance Presentation
- participation in the Primary School Music Festival
- instrumental music lessons with the violin, piano, clarinet, trumpet or recorder
- Junior Choir for all Preschool to Year 2 children
From Years 3 -6 there are also opportunities to:
- experience the Keyboard Lab with 15 keyboards
- be a part of the Recorder Group
- for Year 6s only audition and be part of Noted – the RSS Rock Band
In the second half of the year the Preschool children have a four week learning program in Music.
Physical Education
Our Physical Education specialist provides opportunities for all students to develop their physical movement skills through a game sense approach. Students also develop team play and team building skills through this specialist program.
Our program includes:
- weekly PE lessons that also involve specialised coaching through the Sporting Schools program
- access to the Community Oval and Hall to ensure all weather participation
- Annual Sports Day for Preschool to Year 6 students
- Annual school based Cross Country for Preschool to Year 6
- Swimming Program from R-4 and Aquatics for Year 5/6
In Years 5 and 6 there are also opportunities to participate in:
- SAPSASA
- Sport SA events
- Tryouts for District Sporting teams
- Fitness Friday before school fitness program
In the second half of the year Preschool children participate in a four week Physical education program.
RSS also provides a Community Sports Program for soccer and basketball that is run by parent volunteers.
Technologies
RSS children and young people participate in an engaging Design and Digital Technologies program. Through the process of design, create, reflect and adapt students engage in hands-on learning including robotics, coding and digital communication.
Our program includes:
- weekly lessons with a focus on critical and creative thinking using technologies
- access to laptops and Ipads for learning
- access to programs such as Scratch
Students in Year 5 and 6 also have the opportunity to engage in Technologies Specialisation which is an extra- curricular program within the school day. This program allows the older students to develop skills and knowledge in creating games with multiple pathways.
In the second half of the year Preschool children participate in a four week Technologies program.
Indonesian
The community international language of choice is Indonesian. RSS students enjoy a rich blended program of face to face and online learning by Open Access specialist teachers.
Each year we celebrate Indonesian culture with an Indonesian Day where the learning is shared with our local community via an assembly.
